Who Stole The Christmas Spirit
Once again it is the time of year when it is impossible to forget that Christmas is around the corner, we see advertisements on our televisions, in shops, on the radio and we read about it in magazines and newspapers, but what is it? Christmas? all about? How have things changed since Christmas began?
Originally Christmas was about Christians celebrating the birth of Jesus, now it has become a time when children can't wait to see what Santa left in their Christmas stockings and under the Christmas tree.
Santa Claus (Saint Nicholas) was a rich man who gave gifts to poor people who had financial problems, however, he did not want them to know where the gifts came from, so he gave in such a way that people would find the gifts of him. but it is not known who gave them to him, hence the myth of Santa Claus.
However, for many people today, Christmas has become a time when families worry about the cost of Christmas instead of looking forward to the occasion. The temptation to borrow and credit cards can be overwhelming with the idea of upcoming Christmas costs and how you can afford them.
That said, people like to celebrate Christmas, it is a time for families, parties and celebrations, however the costs involved are still a big factor in the celebrations. The purchase of decorations, food, drinks and travel expenses add to the cost, proving that Christmas is the most expensive time of year for families in the UK.
The Association for Payment Clearing Services (Apacs) said it expects total UK spending in December to be a whopping 48.7 billion, an 11% increase from last year's spending that month!
Free debt counseling agencies like Payplan say the number of inquiries they typically receive in December is significantly lower than at other months of the year; however, February is the time when they receive the most requests, due to debtors denying the real cost. until they realize their finances are paralyzed.
The data reflects what happens in the credit sector in the months around December. People borrow or spend on credit cards to keep up with Christmas costs and then look for ways to tackle their finances in the New Year. A survey conducted by Payplan in 2003 showed that over 45% of people were still paying for gifts purchased in 2002.
People using debt forums are already talking about how they feel the pressure of Christmas and are looking for ways to relieve stress and find ways to cope with the costs of Christmas without increasing their existing debt problems. It's a bit of a depressing time for people stuck in debt! one poster said, The True Spirit of Christmas was hijacked by marketing and advertising people and led to a three-month spending frenzy, another said.
Marketing and advertising make their cost-cutting job very difficult, but they are determined not to have financial hardship anymore because of the Christmas price, I bought baby sock fillers for sale when I see them and told Le the whole family that my limit is 5 each, since they are symbolic gifts and it is the thought that counts. My whole family has more disposable income than me. So with such a small budget I made a lot of purchases.
Christmas should be a time to put smiles on people's faces, not to cause stress and hardship trying to keep up with all the costs they face, which should be a happy occasion. Christmas is about family and I hope my family understands that it is better to have a token gift than to go into debt again.
